Soultru - is a soul crooner based out of the Midwest calling the Quad Cities home for 30 years. Pulling in his early influence from gospel music and The Temptations, listening to artist such as Fred Hammond and Smokie Norful along the way of a sheltered childhood crippled his love for sounds. As time passed he found artists such as Gavin Degraw (who he credits as his biggest vocal influence) R&B legend Brian McKnight, Anthony Hamilton and Kanye West who led him to find John Legend. Through friends he recently has been getting more into the indie side of hiphop a bit more and less of the mainstream.
With his newest inspiration coming from artists such as the Jacob Banks, Son Little, Allen Stone, Fake Four Inc. roster and many other similar artists.
Soultru has opened for artists such as Ceschi Ramos, Kweku Collins, Kristoff Krane, Rittz, Magic City Hippies, and Michigan Rattlers as of recently.
Without sticking to any single genre vocally, he shows the versatility to sing different styles. From being classically trained as well as having the ability to sing most genres including pop/rock/soul/indie.
Growing up in Iowa, Soultru was one of 2 boys raised by their Army vet single mother. Living in Davenport Iowa growing up in a rougher neighborhood. Music was a big part of his upbringing, through church and school.
Eventually he started writing poetry to cope with the things around him. At some point realizing that songs were pretty much poetry but sung instead of being spoken aloud.
This artist will be making moves musically for years to come.
